Throughout history supply chains have used rail transportation as a key element.  As roadways became more expansive after WW2 trucking took over a lot of transport. As we are trying to contain costs and become more ecologically conscious in our supply chain choices the low per ton cost and carbon footprint of rail may become a more attractive option.   Our speaker, Mr Dave Nate, has 30 years of experience in rail freight operations. He will share with us some of the benefits and tradeoffs of rail shipping. He's also going to share some experiences of handling freight on the rails. Some good, some not so good, and some funny.

David Nate is an instructor and advisor in the Marketing and BIS Department of Rohrer College ofBusiness. He teaches Marketing in the Business Environment - Rowan Seminar, Principles of Marketing, Business Logistics, and Principles of Transportation.

Mr. Nate is an alumnus of Glassboro State College with a degree in Marketing Management and Rutgers University where he earned an MBA. He was employed by Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) for 22 years with experience in Operations, Customer Service, Marketing and Sales. After Conrail’s acquisition by NS and CSX, Mr. Nate moved on to Sunoco as the Delaware Valley Transportation Coordinator for eight years before returning to Rowan as a member of the Curriculum Advisory Board for Supply Chain Management, in 2009.
