On-demand distribution platforms, like Flexe, Ware2Go, and FlowSpace, match companies with underutilized warehouse and distribution center capacities with customers who need these services. This new business model is open, available on-demand, on a per-use basis, and adaptable to demand variabilities.  In this webinar, we will compare and contract on-demand business models with traditional models for acquiring warehouse and order fulfillment capacities (i.e., building your own self-distribution facility, or outsourcing using a third-party logistics (3PL) provider).  Participants will gain a better understanding of this emerging business model, and insights on how on-demand business models are transforming how the warehousing and logistics industry operates.  Challenges and cost trade-offs with using on-demand systems for the fulfillment and storage of goods will be identified.

Jennifer Pazour, Ph.D. is an associate professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).  Her research and teaching – which focus on the development and use of mathematical models to guide decision making for logistics and supply chain challenges - have been recognized through a number of national awards.  She is an advocate for youth to pursue engineering and logistics careers, and is always looking for challenging supply chain and logistics problems to motivate her research and incorporate into her classes.  If you have some, please contact her at pazouj@rpi.edu More information can be found at her research and teaching blog: http://jenpazour.wordpress.com/
